Solent Whiting

A short trip planned today with Jake, Gracie and Uncle Ian! Once again we had use of the Merry Fisher 610 and the young angling duo showed there form!
I had a rod out up tide with a big squid and cuttle bait for any lone cod that may have been around while we set the kids up with whiting traces. There was a lot of weed in the Solent making uptiding very difficult. Five minutes after casting the belly of line was collecting enough weed to break out the lead...but hey we were here for the kids today.
With the young rods fishing down tide, the weed was a pain but still allowed some fishing. Gracie had the first fish to the boat which prompted a bit of healthy competition between the two youngsters....and their Dad's!

Nice chunky whiting were soon coming aboard left right and centre while I struggled to get a bait to hold bottom uptide. They soon had a fish on each at the same time which really called for a shot of them both with their prizes!

The competition was fierce and I think they finished the session with seven fish each along with a few token dogfish. Jake however, laid his claim to victory with the biggest fish of the session...a whiting even Dad would have been proud of, going just over 3lb!

When eventually the tide died enough for me to fish, I was plagued with dogfish but did manage the second biggest whiting of the day......Victory for the Father and Son team then!!!
