Scratching Around

We haven’t been out for a while now due to the crap weather and the time of year, so Dave and I decided on a couple of hours scratching to pass away the boredom.  We had a short evenings visit to St Helen's Duver at Bembridge last night to see if we could add a few odd species to the tally. Fishing small hooks and small worm baits, we were after the mini species that for some reason still hang around the shore when the water temperature is at it's lowest.
It was a very slow couple of hours but amazingly we did manage to winkle out a couple of species......one each in fact!!
Dave managed a fat five bearded rockling (slug).

While I managed something a little harder to get for the species count - a pretty little Scorpion fish. We knew they could be caught at this part of the beach and I was secretly hoping for one too, so it was quite pleasing to see the little devil hanging on the end!

After two hours of this with freezing hands, we started to question our sanity. With a blank avoided and a new species for the year each, we packed up and headed back to warm up with a cup of tea!
