In Search of an Early Cod

Dale had invited me out for a day afloat in his warrior 165 'Fish'ardour' today for a go at an early cod and what ever else we could find.
Out at a respectable but early time this morning the decision was made to have a look for a few pollack whilst the tide was still on the ebb before finding somewhere to set the hook. First drift through and with line zinging off a tight set drag, Dale tamed a fine double figure pollack to the net.

A few more drifts produced a couple more pollack and some greedy scad mackerel.....but one I needed for the 09 species list!
With the tide slowing we ventured off to look for some cod at a mark Dale had a good feeling about!
Arriving at slack water, we dropped anchor and waited for the flood tide. After what seemed like hours, the tide began to flood and the fish switched on. A lively bite on my down tide rod brought the first fish to the boat.

Shortly followed by the second (pout and dogs don't count ) .....got to love catching cod in a T-shirt!

Dale had a good take uptide but was taken to ground on what looked like a good fish.
In amongst the ravenous pout another good bite started to develop and soon I was pumping up another, this time the fight was a little more subdued and the culprit was called before he hit the surface. Really pleased with this, a nice bullhuss around 9lb.

Action (apart from the pout) started to drop off after this so after a couple of missed fish and a big old edible crab we shot back in. Great day out and so nice to see a few cod about.

Thanks for the trip Dale.....you found the fish again!
