'Plan C'

Well, due to the weather being too windy for the boat and also in the East we were onto Plan C for the weekend trip.
It was decided that we would have a slight change of tactics…..together with the usual 'big' fish rods, we decided to have a scratching rod each to hopefully keep a steady stream of bites and help keep the circulation going!
Arrived at 4ish, deployed the usual squid baits and also our 3 hook scratching rigs baited with some mini baits!!

Started off quite hectic with plenty of pouting coming to the scratching rods…followed by a pollack to a whole squid bait & then a small silver eel. Also hot on the scene were a few fat shore rockling or 'slugs' as they are often referred to!

Soon after, my 'big fish' rod bucked over and I struck into something a bit better. Dave was waiting in anticipation on the surf line as I slid a bar of silver up the shingle in the shape of a 3lb 8oz bass. This fish was extremely lean and sporting a 'healed' bite mark near the anal fin. I would have expected this bass to be well over 4lb in top condition.....it looked more like a pike!

Bites slowed as the tide ebbed to low water….just more pout and a couple more shore slugs!!
