An Anticlimax....

With reports of a few cod showing in the last couple of weeks and a nice weather window today, we were hopeful of finding one or two.
A leisurely  launch at 10:30 and we were soon skimming across the bay on a silky smooth sea. The plan was to head out a bit today given the conditions, fishing the last of the flood and the best part of the ebb. A few passes over the mark to get our bearings and down went the hook.
Fishing was surprisingly slow with just the odd dogfish for the first couple of hours and only really started to liven up towards the end of the flood. A better bite uptide had me winding like a lunatic and hoping to meet some heavy nodding resistance - but no, this was small and too lively.....

Dave was off next with something that had a bit more go in it...this turned out to be a small Tope proving the summer fish were also still in residence. Next up was another small bass that ran off with Dave's cod bait!

A better fish this time started to back off with a large bait that Dave was fishing down tide. This one fought like a large dogfish and did in fact turn out to be a nice Bullhuss around 9lb. Dave did well to avoid it's attempts at biting his arm while holding it up for the camera!!!

As quick as the flurry of fish started, it ended again with literally a 10 minute window of action. We re-anchored for the ebb tide and as it got going we found of couple of eels, including a baby one!

We were expecting things to kick off here, being an ebb tide mark but it just didn't happen. The wind got up and we were chucked about for 2 bite-less hours until we conceded to the fact that we weren't going back with a cod today. As the title suggests -  a bit of an anticlimax but hey, there is always next time!
