Out Deep On The Spurs!

Well with some real settled weather, small tides and the onset of Spring it would have been rude not to head out deep and have a go at the Spurdogs. Jake was tagging along today, very excited about the prospect of catching himself a shark!
We arrived just as the ebb tide started to run and were into fish from the off.......the target species too! Dave had the first and second fish to the boat within 5 minutes! The first a nice fish just into double figures....

The second fish surprised us all....a huge spur weighing in at 21lb!

Well with those two fish in the first 5 minutes we thought we would be in for a good day....we were wrong.....it was better than good!!! Spur after spur came to the boat along with countless congers....

Jake got in on the shark action too and managed to catch a very respectable fish of 19lb!

In addition to plenty more good sized fish!

We lost count of how many spurs and congers we had...it was fun and very tiring but it wasn't just all spurs and eels....
In amongst the hoards of sharks, I manged to find a cod of 20lb 8oz which was a very nice surprise!!!

Jake found an Undulate of 15lb to add to his growing list of PB's!

There were small Bull Huss and monster pout too!

Those spurs though did keep coming....all fish well into double figures bar one of Jake's!!

By the time slack tide came we were all so tired that we opted to head inshore for a go at an early bream. Despite fish still being thick on the ground, we had the feeling that we had already filled our boots!
A move inshore was most welcome for the last hour of the trip....fishing was slow...thank god! A little bit of time to recuperate and take in the fishing that we had just experienced! A spotted ray and and undulate came to the boat and not a lot else until just as we were getting ready to go in....then the first bream of the year made an appearance!

Great fishing and great weather......what more can you ask for!
