I've got Sole but I'm not a Soldier.....

Planned a trip for sole last night and to fish the right state of tide we weren't hitting the beach until 11pm! It wasn't a school night so just about doable although sometimes the force is too strong and that's what drives you on to do these mad things!!!
I'd dug a good couple of pound of nice big rag worms the day before and sat at home yesterday evening knocking up some special sole rigs...patent pending ;-)
Eagerness set in and in the end we were at the mark for 10pm. Knowing it would be slow to start we proceeded to fire up the burner, bring out the pan and cook up some sausages!....and welcome they were too.
The first hour, as expected was very quiet with only the odd knock or two but as we passed 11pm with the first of the flood, a classic sole bite registered on my left hand rod......... soon had the first one on the beach around 1lb. Whilst reeling in this one the second rod was off with a big butt swinging bite and a second fish joined the first at just over 1lb.

Half an hour later and I was in again..... this was a much better fish . Plenty of weight on the retrieve and a lively fish on the other end.......I soon slid a doormat of a sole up the shingle. This one went 2lb 2oz and is a new personal best for me.......come on Dave, keep up!

It was a this point that Dave learnt that my success may have been down to a secret sole rig that I had devised!...got a feeling he may have some ready prepared for the next trip.
After this followed eels, bass, pout and a baby smut before Dave finally managed his first flattie of the evening, a flounder!... still another species for the list. I followed this with a small slip of a sole and at last Dave got his first sole of the year.

With that, we were past the prime time and it was time to knock it on the head. A very late night is a lot more tolerable when you have had a decent session!
