Half Day

With the weather being so good, we thought it rude not to get out and have a fish in Rockhopper. We managed to sneak a half day off work to sort a few boat bits and then have a few hours daylight fishing before it got dark….
We arrived late afternoon with a nice flat calm sea I dropped the hook and soon we were deploying the gear!
It started off very hectic with a flurry of rays of the spotted and thornback variety…I think it was 7 in about 45mins!

Then the rays went off the boil with just pout, dogs, mackerel & a spirited smut giving interest in the baits before slack water….
After what seemed like an eternity the tide eventually started to turn the boat round and begin to ebb….
Soon the eels were on the feed and we managed about 6-7 with a couple of better ones about 30-35lb giving some great sport on the uptiders.

Nearing the end of the trip and probably with just seconds to go on the last casts my rod gave a more lively bite and for the first time the net was out! – 3lb 4oz

Minutes after this Dave's uptider started to nod and soon a cod of 6lb came to the net.

Long may this weather last!!
