I was a bit apprehensive about this mornings conditions having seen heavy mist and fog beginning to shroud the houses yesterday evening. When I awoke this morning it still looked the same but at the slip with the sun just up and chart plotter in order it had to be done. We were soon underway with conditions improving all the time and after a good fast run we were sat at anchor.
Dan had his mind set on bass for the day while I was really wanting to see a cod.
It wasn't long before we were both into jumbo pout and the inevitable woffa's and eventually the first of the target species came aboard.
This got Dan fired up and he sent down a secret cocktail (surf and turf....I saw it Dan!) wich produced a nice fish around 4lb.........a personal best for Dan.
The next fish of note did the best impression of a cod that I have ever seen and dashed my hopes as it surfaced. Nodding all the way but at least it was better than another dog.....a thornback ray.
Things then went quiet for a while untill last nockings when I managed this little fin perfect 6lb cod to double squid on the downtide rod.
A nice mornings work and the engine ran very nicely giving me an extra 5 knots over the old one for just a few more horses!
