Family Day Out

I had planned for a bit of family day out today, chasing bass and mackerel with lures from the boat. My father in law (Pops) was over visiting so we had planned to get out early with a view to then meet the others mid morning at a beach a bit closer to home.
We launched slightly late due to one thing or another but were greeted with hundreds of working gulls over the same amount of bass. We were into fish from the off, catching one a cast. Most were small bass ranging in size from 8oz to 2lb but we found a few 3's and 4's in amongst them.
I love this kind of fishing, the time just flies and before we knew it, we were scheduled to make a beach stop at Fishbourne. We were hoping for a bit of lunch when we came ashore but with 5 kids waiting to go for a fish and a ride round it was just Pops that managed a sandwich.

Loaded up with nieces, a son and daughter I took them out for a run round and found them a few mackerel to play with. Everyone took turns steering the boat, even the dog came out for a ride before I managed any lunch!

After lunch Pops and I had planned to have another hour or two on the bass while waiting for the tide to come up and give us enough water to get back in the harbour. However, there was a problem!......Ciara - my niece, had declared she was coming with us, along with shouts of "so am I" from my two. After explaining to my two that they could come any time, we managed to leave with just the extra one child in tow.
The bass were still in abundance and as we started fishing, Ciara could not believe how easy they were to catch. Every time she cast out a fish would be pulling her rod round in a matter of seconds and Ciara being a big fish eater, was after her tea!
It wasn't long before she latched into something a bit better. With a good bend in the rod and the drag singing, she was pulled all over the show! Another fish around 3lb...top stuff Ciara!!

We filled our boots with the hectic fishing for another hour before heading back to the slip.
Ciara stood in the kitchen watching me fillet and prepare her bass. She insisted on having both fillets for her tea and did in fact eat the whole lot!....she wants a rod for Christmas now!!!
