Bass on the Fly

Out on my own today for a bit of stealthy bass hunting. This morning though, I left the spinning rods at home and loaded the car with just a box of salt water flies, fly rod, reel and net. My small open boat is absolutely perfect for this style of fishing and catching bass on the fly is great fun...catching any thing on a fly is great fun!
I was at the boat ready to launch just after first light, conditions were perfect. Gliding out on a silky smooth sea, I had two options:

1 - Stay inshore and hunt them down around the sandbanks in the shallows.
2 - Head out to the forts and add mackerel as a target species.

In the end I did both!!...and had a whale of a time in doing so. The bass were obliging in close, where I had over 40 fish. Further out, similar numbers with the mackerel thrown in too. I would highly recommend this to anyone and you can be sure that I will be doing a whole lot more of this in the future!
All but a few pan sized fish for the table were returned, a very rewarding way of catching those lovely silver bars.
