Exploring new territory this evening in the boat. A shallow mark that has produced well in the day for a variety of species looked like a banker for a local sole mark.
Under the cover of darkness we slipped out from the harbour and after a short steam we were sat at anchor. The air was warm, the sea was flat and the water - gin clear. Conditions looked great as we busied ourselves setting up the light rods and flicking worm baits in all directions.
School bass, bream, silver eels and lots of small smoothounds were first on the scene and to be honest, hindered our chances of a sole as they continued to pester us. After two hours of the flood tide, I noticed a rattle on the right hand rod, it looked promising so I let it fish for another 10 minutes. On picking the rod up, it went mad....this had to be a sole! Sure enough, up she came, confirming our suspicions of the venue....excellent!
Before the night was out, I think we both managed to loose another suspect fish each in amongst the ravenous smoothounds and pout that had put in an appearance. Still, another inshore mark up the sleeve and one I shall be visiting again at some point.
