Dave and I made a last minute trip out into the bay again yesterday evening in search of a few more rays to top up the species list for this year. Fishing the flood we found a couple in amongst the hordes of dogs and pout.
The first tore off on my up-tider in the full run of the tide and had my arms aching when I finally coaxed it up to the net. She looked a good fish and despite Dave's best efforts it was proving to big for his net. After sitting half in the rim she woke up again flipped out, then took 50-60 yards straight back off the reel.....help!
Another 10 minutes of underwater kite flying she came to the net again and luckily folded up inside this time. Not a PB but a nice fish of 21lb...
Soon after my down-tider was away with another ray, this time easier going with a male painted around 6lb.
More dogs and pout followed but we couldn't buy another ray and as the ebb started the bites dried up coinciding with lines up.
Nice evening out in good company as per usual!
