'Trigger Happy'

Dave and I headed out for the day in Sandown Bay yesterday in search of trigger fish. What a lovely day with the sun shining and hardly a breath of wind. As well as catching our target fish, we had a good species count for the day with ballan wrasse, corkwing wrasse, gobies, triggers, bass, bream, conger, mackerel and garfish.
Dave was first off the starter blocks with this stunning fish of around 2lb......

Then a similar sized one for me!

Then another for Dave!

Distracted by the triggers and bream I had almost forgotten about a big mackerel bait I'd slung out on the uptider to fish it's self......that is until the ratchet screamed off! Turned out to be an eel which was very surprising given the shallowness of the mark and the fact it was broad daylight!

The triggers were really coming on the feed now as the flood tide gained strength and soon we were both playing a fish at the same time.....these things really do scrap!

Another classic trigger bite and I'm playing a 3rd. When it neared the surface I could see another one following him everywhere, so I let the hooked fish swim around by the side of the boat for a bit and eventually his mate took the other hook, resulting in a double shot!

Dave then rounded the day off with a fin perfect 4lb bass...lovely stuff!
