A few of us at work had been kicking around the idea of getting together for a friendly shore competition. It had been the topic of conversation in the smoking area for a few weeks now and so I decided to plan one for tonight. Fiver in each with an optional couple of quid for best specimen and heaviest fish. Fishing to NFSA size limits, catch and release unless retaining fish to eat.
We met up for 7pm, said our hello's, signed on and were ready to go for 7:30pm. I opted for a bit of a walk while most of the 12 fishing set up immediately in front of the steps.
First cast I landed a bass around 14" that fell two inches short of the size limit. Second cast another around 12" and that is much the way it went for the night. It was very busy with bites coming thick and fast and by the end I had totalled 14 bass and one silver eel. Two of the bass made it to the scales at 17" and 19", as did the eel which was returned alive.
Lines in at 12am and the talk from the other lads was of a very quiet night with a couple of small bass, bream and smoothounds. Best fish along there had been a 20" smoothound so suffice to say I took top spot and both sweeps! Not a bad night with tomorrow's dinner thrown in too!
Sleep is now on the agenda as I have promised to take the kids, the other half and a couple of her mates fishing from the shore in the morning....should be fun!
