Hatchlands Fishery

Just got back from a 4 day camping holiday on the river Dart, a little wet but great fun all the same. I had packed a fly rod with the intention of sneaking off for a mornings trout fishing at the nearest lake I could find. Hatchlands trout fishery seemed to fit the bill being only 8 miles away from camp. £12 for a two fish ticket also seemed pretty reasonable and so with a vodka induced hangover, I was dropped off at the lake while the others went to a farm!
It was tough going and the only fish I saw looked very small. After an hour I managed to hook one of the tiny things.....I kid you not, it must have been 4 inches long! A chat with the owner when he turned up confirmed that there were some tiddlers in there but I should expect to catch fish between 1lb to 1lb 8oz.......slightly bigger tiddlers then!
I worked my way down the lake over the next couple of hours and eventually managed to get my two fish. Small but perfectly formed, it was just what I needed to shake the hangover from hell!

In true camping style they were cooked outside the tents that evening and very tasty they were too!
