A planned session on the Bream this morning in the only real weather window showing this weekend. Despite a super early start of 5:30am, Jake was adamant he wanted to go!
I loaded the car and had everything ready before I woke him up just before five o'clock. He shot out of bed like a rocket and we were soon on our way down to the club to meet Dave and ready the boat.
It was a cold start with a thin layer of ice on everything but the wind was down as forecast and we were soon skipping along on a fairly smooth sea.
Jake managed the target species within five minutes and being his first cast we had high expectations for the morning ahead. A nice male fish too at 2lb 3oz....Despite the good start though, it was pretty quiet on the bream front. Between us we found a few small congers, Smoothounds and rays with the best fish being another nice undulate...
Dave and Jake had a small spotted ray each each before we decided on a move to deeper water.
There seemed to be a bit more action here, mostly though from pout and nuisance fish! Dave managed two small bream before the flood tide was almost gone but Jake hadn't finished dealing out the whoop-ass. He sprang into action yet again with a nice female this time..........the smug look says it all!
With the tide now slack we made for home and with the promise of a stop off at the golden arches on the way back Jake was made up.
I missed the bream completely this morning but in all honesty.....I couldn't care less - glad it all happened for Jake. We wont hear the end of this one for a little while though!
