Maiden Voyage....

Been busy over the last few weeks with boats. I have sold on my 4 metre centre console and upgraded to something a bit more 'Jake' friendly. After a bit of TLC and tarting up she was ready for her maiden voyage today with my brother - Joe. As always, I will be keeping mine 'Solent side' while Dave's remains round the back. This way, depending on weather and target species we have most of it covered!
We slipped our pontoon berth at Wootton and were soon flying along in the Solent on our way round to Sandown Bay. It was pretty choppy on the way round and I was pleasantly surprised at how well the boat handled it skipping along at around 25 knots with little or no spray punching up over the bow.
In a little over 30 minutes we were sat in the shelter of the bay and soon had some baits over the side fishing away. The bream were about in numbers although most were fairly small in the 1 - 1.5lb bracket. There was plenty of action none the less and between us we had around 30 before slack tide arrived.

Over slack we found the mackerel and they were about in good numbers....a little later than last year but here at last and much needed for the bait freezer!
The ebb tide was a little slower on the bream front which gave us a chance to find a few other species......

Incidentally, all our fish were caught and played on light lure rods including this specimen undulate of 14lb 8oz.....a great bit of sport!

We had a few hounds and dogs before we decided on a move to see if we could find a flattie or two in the last hour or so we had left.
The weather had really calmed down now and the sea was silky smooth, the sun was beating down and we were just enjoying being out there. The icing on the cake came in the shape of a small Brill...nothing to write home about but another species ticked off for this year....

On the subject of species, I also found a Lesser Weaver too!

We hammered it back home on a flat calm sea .....most of the way at around 30 knots to give the engine a real good run. Really pleased with the boat, still a few bits and pieces to sort but a great first run with her!
