Bass and Big Dogs!

The small tide tonight and great weather inspired us to put a bit more water underneath the boat, still in search of a bass or two.
We had a small window of daylight left to catch some bait and luckily we managed a dozen mackerel that came through in a 5 minute window. It was lucky we had them when we did as no more came to the feathers before darkness fell.
We found some other fish before darkness too, it wasn't fast and furious fishing - a little bit more subdued than normal.....just like the small tide we had tonight.
A couple of Undulates and a bass made their way to the boat before the sun dropped behind the horizon.

These two came at the same time on different rods...not often you get to photo two together like this!

Darkness fell and the action kicked up a notch...more of the same but you gotta love those undulates!

A few snarly congers followed as per usual before something a little different....now these dogs I don't mind catching!......a nice Bullhuss around 8lb.

Dave dropped one too....really made a state of his mackerel bait before spitting the hook.
We had a quiet half hour before I noticed a very slight and gentle nod on the down tide rod.....then again 5 seconds later. I was just getting ready to pick it up in anticipation for the next when it slammed round and all hell broke loose! Bass on, and she wasn't too happy about it!. After a great fight she came to rest in the net....half decent one this time, not far off 7lb.

A couple of smaller ones came to the boat before it was Dave's turn to connect with a good fish. Now this one really did look like a double in the water....big long fish that managed to spit the hook...luckily once in the net!
It didn't look as big in the boat as it did in the water....still long but a bit lean with it. On the scales this one was nudging 8lb, still a cracking fish in anyone's book.

The bites soon dried up as expected and we made for home. Good nights fishing with some cracking fish.
Now, 3 hours sleep until I'm getting up for an early morning session!
