Ray Save The Day...

Another Day time session this morning looked to be the only real weather window of the weekend. A much bigger tide than last week which we hoped might bring a few more fish with it.....but I did have my doubts!
Jake came along for a go today and unfortunately, just like last week - it was a slow one. The odd mackerel on feathers and small bream along with exhausted games of 'I spy' kept him amused throughout the flood though.
After a local move for the ebb I noticed his spinning rod baited with squid strip pull down a couple of times and remarked that he might have a fish on. He picked his rod up and lifted into something that then yanked right back......over the course of the next 10 minutes he had an epic battle with a nice thornback ray on a 30 gram lure rod. Thank god it was slack tide!

The ebb fished just the same as the flood so we didn't hang around for too long. The only other fish of note apart from a small bass and a couple of dogs was the same shape as Jake's...yet these days - more common!

Jake was made up with his ray so even though we had a slow one, we can still notch it in as a success. Hopefully we'll get another shot near the end of the week before the weekends weather comes in.
