It's Been A While....

......Five weeks without so much as wetting a line felt like an eternity but with a small tide and weather on our side we were finally out today!
With the cod all but gone and the spring species not quite here it was a no brainer to head out deep and have a go for some blondes. We concentrated our efforts either side of high tide slack and fished hard for 4-5 hours.
Apart from dogs, the fishing was unusually slow. The half a dozen or so boats that had ventured out were moving around all day suggesting they were finding it difficult too.
We contemplated a move but not long after a tell tale blonde bite started to develop on my down tide rod. I gave it plenty of time to get a hold of the bait before lifting into the first and only blonde of the day....an average fish at 16lb 8oz.

Despite our best efforts though, we didn't find another blonde before the tide got away again......however - I did connect with a cracking bite on the uptider. There was no doubt what this was and after a good run around in the tide a bass of 6lb 12oz lay in the net.

A slow day but great to get out and I would go again tomorrow just for those two fish. Itch scratched for the time being and spring is just around the corner!
