Dave and I stepped aboard the beast as she pulled into Yarmouth harbour just after 8am and in no time at all the massive twin outboards were pushing us along at an impressive speed at just a gentle purr.
There was a nice swell running which got the better of a first timer for the best part of the day. Funny thing was that he had bought himself a pair of 'anti-sea sickness' glasses that looked a bit like comedy 4 way googles.....5 minutes after putting them on he was roaring over the side...classic!!
Well the weather truly was nice, almost like a spring day. The fishing on the other hand was...well - pretty slow....unless you're counting dogs. A few whiting came at slack tide and a I managed to drop a half decent fish half way up - my money was on an eel.
As the ebb tide got going I had another similar fish on that did indeed turn out to be a small eel around 20lb. Then Dave took one too of similar size a little while later.
Dogs kept the rod tips nodding until I hooked up with another better fish...this one felt a bit 50/50...could have been a cod....could have been an eel. We'll never know because this one came off half way up too :-/ Uptide fishing is great for increasing your catch rate but you can't do a great deal about how the fish hooks itself....if it's lightly hooked it's gonna come off.
Last chance came when my uptide rod was off for a fourth time....I had the same thing happen again but this time it was easy to see why when a mangled pout arrived at the boat....had eel written all over it!
That was pretty much the day done, no cod and no fireworks but a good laugh and an enjoyable day in great company.
