Yes - my fish hungry 7 year old took advantage of the calm weather and stowed himself on board today. Bit of a foggy start to the day but the sea was as flat as a sheet of glass....it would be comfortable if nothing else.
Whiting and dogs made up the bulk of the catch and kept Jake amused all day. With the small tide he was able to to fish with a light rod and fixed spool - a set up he can handle a lot easier....even when they come in two at a time!
The dogs were relentless and out numbered anything else. Some of the whiting were nice sized table fish with Dave finding a couple pushing 3lb. No sign of a cod though and most boats were telling a similar story over the radio.....but then something just a little bigger than the whiting at around 4lb. Fin perfect and brightly speckled - a cod in miniature!
More dogs and whiting came to the boat before I hooked something that also felt very much like a small cod. I passed the rod to Jake and let him take the glory!.....he was chuffed to bits with his first ever cod!!
Not long after that we shot back in......love it when it all goes to plan!
