Marukyu Isome All The Way

My Birthday and a last shot at the plaice today with a perfect small tide to maximise drift time. Only down side to these very small neap tides is getting hold of some bait. With my usual spots still underwater at low tide and no worm available at the bait shops it was the red Isomes in XL that saved the day. Knowing how well these things work, we were confident that we would do just as well without the live ragworm.
These imitation worms come into their own when the drift speed drops down below 1.5 knots.....even better at slack because at this point you can work them really well. Rhythmical and subtle jigging on a drop shot rig with a 1 - 2oz lead works wonders - just hold still and give some line when you feel extra weight or you feel a take. Count to three and then lift into the fish - if nothing is there carry on jigging - the fish will come back. If it doesn't come back it's had your rubber worm off the hook!
I added a medium sized worm just below the large one for double hook up opportunity but most if not all fish came to the XL.

When you match all of this up with some ultra light gear you can really have some fun. We had plenty of fish throughout the session and ended it with a great specimen and my best this year at 5lb 9oz......Happy Birthday!

You owe it to yourself to have a go at this next year, you will be surprised at just how effective it can be!
