First Trip Of 2014

First trip of the year today with a stab at trying to find the last of the cod. We were expecting a slow day and indeed that's exactly what we got. A steady flow of congers up to 30lb did keep the rod tips nodding through out the day however.
The morning started off quite lumpy with a good swell still running and f4 blowing down our necks. As the day wore on though the weather just got better and better and towards the end of the day the conditions were almost idyllic (just needed the heat!).

The only fish of note was a personal best painted ray for Dave - just under double figures...

Good to get out even if the fishing was slow....looking at the weather, it might be a while before we are afloat again! If this keeps up I really will have to get the long rods out and have a go off the beach.....been a long time but must make the effort this year.
