Well, into May now, the time of year that starts to open more and wider opportunity with the fishing. This in mind, and given the fact that we have pretty much nailed the bream this year we decided this would be the last go at them before we try something different.
Three in the boat today with Ian tagging along for a bit of fun with the bream. We were all fishing with ultra light rods and with the clear water than now seems to be here, expectations were for a good day and we weren't disappointed.....
Numbers of fish were up but the average size was down. The fat females were also now showing up where as before nearly all our fish had been the colourful males. Fishing through the hungry pack of piranhas behind the back of the boat we did manage to connect with better fish up to 3lb 10oz.
So after filling our boots on the bream for the best part of three hours we decided on a few drifts with a mix of Isome worms and 'real' ragworm to see if we could pick up a few more of the plaice that had shown interest in our bream baits.
Results were surprising and in under half an hour we managed to find 6 plaice, all small and skinny but plaice none the less!...Here's probably the pick of the bunch at around 1lb 8oz:
Well, as fun as the bream fishing is it's got to be a change of scenery next with a go at something different.
