Better Weather / Better Fishing

Summer is officially here with the start of this fine warm sunshine and is just how June should be - I think we are owed it after all that crap we took through the winter. The only thing still lacking is the mackerel......we normally hit good numbers as soon as the bream start to show but so far this year Ive yet to see a single one. Are they late, else where or wiped out?....time will tell but it's not usual that's for sure.
Anyway today was hot and flat calm. The water had improved clarity with at least 10 foot visibility and the bass and plaice were calling us out.
The bass were there but patchy and I think we missed the best part of the tide so made the most of 30 minutes with half a dozen fish to 6lb on lures before the tide died back.

Done with the bass, it was time for the plaice. We were bait-less today and just as we did for the bass - it was lures for the plaice too. Isome worms presented on a drop shot rig were all that we needed and after our success with them last year we had the confidence too.
It didn't take long to start finding fish but most were still out of condition. This fish of just under 5lb looked huge on deck but was real skinny......I'd like to catch this fish again in August...potential to be over 7!

Just goes to show though that you can go out and target the plaice without bait.....and those super light rods just add to the fun!

Less than a month now before we head off to Norway to fish inside the arctic circle for 6 days.......hopefully still time to get out for more of the same before we go!
