In Search of Bream

Well we were up at silly o'clock this morning for a bash at an early bream. The forecast for today had looked promising for most of the week but not quite so nice this morning.
After a hairy launch we were on our way out (bailing water on route) and it quickly became apparent that we were not going to get out as far as we wanted to, so settled in close for a bit. Still the sun was out and it looked promising for a move further out when the tide turned.
First drop down I had this lovely wrasse of 2lb 14oz.

This was followed with a black cloud, rain and very strong gusts of wind......a dog and then sunshine again!
As all had calmed down a bit we moved to a mark a bit further out to find a few more fish while waiting for that tide to turn and go with the wind direction. The bites then came a bit quicker and I took 3 spotted rays, a starry smoothound, pout, more dogs and the first bream of the year........along with more rain, sea spay, wind and giant hailstones!!!!

The tide started to turn, the wind dropped and some colour returned to Dave's cheeks so we headed out to our planned destination for the last hour and a half of the trip. Bream bites were patchy but the dogs and rays were still obliging.

Dave then pulled his finger out and had a nice couple of bream with the biggest going 3lb 4oz (male too)

We had a few more missed bream bites and then just after I'd added a thornback to the species tally the heavens opened again and it kicked up quite rough.

It was lines in time anyhow and after a bit of surfing we had the boat safely back on the trailer.
Not a bad mornings fishing but the weather definitely could have been better!!!
