Ryde Pier - Something a Little Different....

Plan A for the weekend was cancelled due to the brisk SE wind yesterday…..so Plan B it was!
After hearing that some big squid were showing at Ryde Pier we decided to try our luck for a monster or two!!
The plan was to deploy a scratching rod for pout and then use these fish on a rod down the side as a live bait for the squid.
As it got dark the squid came on the feed with bites showing as slow rhythmical pulling on the rod. We had a few let go at the surface just before netting them but eventually we managed to land some of the feisty devils!

With enough pout for bait, I had sneaked out a sandeel on the other rod just in case a passing ray may have been interested......this resulted in a very nice spotted of 4lb 5oz which is a personal best for me from the shore :-)

As well as the squid we also had some interest on the live baits from Cuttle fish too....

A very enjoyable night, but a word of warning - this can be quite addictive!!!
