Time to visit the 'outlaws' again this weekend up in Gloucester so some ground work was put in for a bit of Fly fishing. Given the choice of Bushylease (again) or Lechlade, I opted for Lechlade as this lake stocks some monsters!!
This fishing here doesn't come cheap which is probably why I don't do it more often but it's a great day out all the same and something I really look forward to when visiting.
The forecast had not been great and sure enough it was pissing down for most of the morning. Hooking a trout proved bloody hard work and after 3 hours without so much as a take I nearly fell in when something did actually snatch the fly and tighten up! It fought like a demon and 15 minutes later I had a fine fish of 7lb 8oz on the bank.

After another 30 minutes in the same spot I thought I would go for a wander, leaving Pete (father in law) thrashing the water to foam on his own!
It was half a lap of the lake and another couple of hours before I hooked my next fish which again fought like a team train. This one was slightly better than the first at 8lb 3oz and takes top spot for my best trout to date.
Unfortunately that was it for the day as I could not buy another take. The fish that I could see milling around were a bout 20 feet out of casting range....may be worth trying a punt or rowing boat for the next visit! Poor old Pete blanked but he still enjoyed his day.....he will still have some fillets for the freezer though so not all bad. I'll be back for sure in the hope of nailing a double!
