Codding on a School Night

Another evening trip last night was preceded by the usual mad rush back from work, and into the compound to help set up Rock-hopper and get her launched as quickly as possible!!
We were floating by 7:30 and the pair of us were soon en-route to the mark. There was a bit more wind than expected and with the large tide it wasn’t as calm as we could have hoped for but never mind….it was time to fish’ard!!
The usual squid and cuttle baits were deployed up and downtide before it was time to sit back and wait.
First fish up were the usual pout and dogs, before a better bite on Dave's uptider….you can tell when he has a good fish on as he goes very quiet!! Soon up came the only cod of the evening, a nice conditioned fish of 11lb.

Next I had a cracking bite on the uptider and a livelier fish on the end….almost definitely a bass, which shook the hooks a few yards from the top....I love it when that happens :-/
After this we had a few eels and as we were starting to pack away / organise the gear for the steam in, my downtider was off and bouncing around – hard one to call this as the tide was steaming through, but soon a pristine bass of 4lb 4oz lay in the net, offering some consolation for 'the one that got away'!

With that the rods were away, the anchor up and we were heading back to the launch site while we still had some beach left.
