Shall we Shant we?

We had originally planned to head out in Sandown Bay tonight for an evening targeting cod   but with a force 4 -5 that was out of the question. Wind direction however was blowing offshore so we made the tentative decision to go down and have a look at the sea state and launch if we were happy. On arrival it did look quite rough but in close it was fishable and more importantly launchable.
We made the call and tucked right in close within half a mile of the shore. I wasn't too confident of finding a cod in this close but hey you never know and it was better than sitting in doors!
We dropped anchor on some inshore numbers that have produced a mixture of species in the past and sat back in hope! Five minutes in and we were suffering with hordes of pout and dogfish. It was much like this for most of the evening, however I did mange to winkle out a specimen sized Undulate Ray of 16lb....(unfortunately 8oz short of my personal best) and a small thornback around 6lb.

No cod but well worth the effort in the end!
