Having filled our boots with the plaice at the blocks we were keen to have a go for some more flatties but of a different variety. Swapping worm for mackerel we were off in search of turbot and brill today and the weather looked perfect for it.
On arrival the gear was deployed and we sat back waiting for a bite.....They don't come very often but when they do and as long as they rattle - you can be sure it's a flat fish of some description.
Not long after the baits were deployed I had a little rattle which was induced from a few twitches on the downtider,...the extra movement sometimes spurs a fish on to come and have a look. Sat on my hands for a couple of minutes while the rattle developed and soon lifted in to a little bit of weight. The first fish graced the net in the shape of this nice little Turbot.
Not long after this my uptider was away with a good bite......this one was missed, but a cast back to the same spot resulted in an immediate bite and fish on!! This time a small and beautifully marked brill.
Next up it was Dave's turn with another brill - this one had some different but very impressive markings too.....must have been over slightly different ground.
Things went pretty quiet after this but before the tide died away I managed another turbot before heading back!
What a relaxing way to spend the morning, I do have a bit of a soft spot for flatfish!
