Short Mid-Week Trip

Short mid-week trip for me and Dave yesterday in the bay......
We arrived at the compound just after 6 and hastily readied the boat to make the most of the light we had left. Soon we were launched and en-route in somewhat choppy conditions.
After a bite less half hour, eventually Dave's uptider started to nod which soon turned into a small spotted ray, followed by a dogfish and a token mackerel! I also had a spotted ray before the daylight and flood tide started to disappear.
With darkness upon us and the boat very slowly starting to swing round with the first of the ebb tide we were pestered with loads of pout and dogfish. That is until my rod, baited with a live launce, whacked over and tried to leave the boat!

First impressions were bass but it didn't have the fight....I called right in the end when a nice painted ray glided in to view.

As we were still swinging around all over the place waiting for the ebb tide to get under way we wound a few rods in to avoid tangles. Dave must have left one bait dragging in the water over the stern because as he went to get it in and re-bait, something wasn't quite right. For a minute he thought the line had snagged around the engine, when up came a fat cuttle fish spraying big jets of water into the air....I got a bloody soaking!
With a bit of gentle coaxing and quick netting it was soon aboard. It posed nicely for a photo or two, but I was getting paranoid about getting a shot of ink.......you would have done, just look at him...he looks really pissed off to me!!

As the ebb tide finally got under way we had yet more pout and dogs, with Dave taking the last respectable fish of the evening  - a welcomed bass.

Looking at the long range forecast, it may be time to break the beach gear out again soon....
