My son Jake has been banging on about wanting to catch a shark. So took him out for a couple of hours this afternoon to try and keep him quiet and maybe find one in daylight for him.
I set him up and let him get on with it. He was doing the whole lot apart from putting the bait on the hook....he would have ago at that but at 4 years old I don't yet trust him with anything sharp and pointed!
I'll give him credit, he deserved a fish and I was preying he would get one. With a surprising amount of patience, 45 minutes in he had his first run. I set the hook and passed him his rod while he set about trying to reel in Jaws! I supported the rod halfway up to keep it high while he set about getting line back on his reel.
"It's really pulling Dad" he said through the huge smile now plastered on his face!
"Don't come off" - "Don't come off" I repeated over and over in my head, until at last his prize lay on the beach!
You should have seen his face, absolutely priceless!. After a quick photo he was more than happy to put it back.......after explaining that his Mum, Sister and friends would be able to see the photos later!
Job done, we had to go back and show Mum what was on the camera!......nothing quite like a bit of Father / Son bonding :-)
