Not totally satisfied with the shark, Jake now wanted to catch something he could take home and eat 'like Dad does'. With orders from Mum to bring back a bass, I knew I had my work cut out today.
I had planned to take him out in the boat but decided against it looking at the wind. Instead we packed the beach gear in to the jeep while I thought long and hard about where to take him for the best chance of finding him one. On route I tried to tell him not to be too expectant as we might not get one today and if we don't there is always next time. He seemed to get the idea and said it didn't matter but he would still really like to get one today!
Rods out and we were in to some small puppy sized hounds and a few school bass....
"is this one big enough Dad" - "What about this one" ?
"Too small mate, lets put him back to grow bigger"
"We're never gona get one big enough are we"
Then, nearing the end of the session, my prayers were answered when I had a good pull round followed by slack line. Catching up with the fish, I set the hook and passed Jake the rod. With a bit of team work he had his bass flapping about by his feet.......pleased was an understatement!...for the both of us! After dispatching the fish with a bop on the head (which he had to repeat and disturbingly seemed to enjoy) he held up his 4lb fish for the camera.
Little Man happy, tea sorted and Dad - flavour of the week!
