'Double Double' - Lechlade

I have just got back from another weekend away visiting family. As it now seems to be the norm, we managed to squeeze in some fly fishing for trout. Again I was presented with the choice of Lechlade or Bushyleaze and with a double on my wish list, my mind was made up before the question was asked!
The weather was very cold, despite the sunshine and the fish stayed down deep. Fishing was slow and very hard work with just two takes over the whole day. These were induced by changing over to the biggest brightest white fly I had. Luckily I managed to hit both fish and the first fish to the boat looked like a clonker! I had indeed found my illusive double weighing in at 12lb 8oz!

The second fish came near the end of the day and fought harder than the first. With a 6lb leader and 7 weight rod it was a full 10 minutes before she was anywhere near tired. Eventually netted, I could see she wasn't as thick set as the first but another lovely rainbow all the same. On the scales this one went 10lb 9oz, giving me two double figure fish for the day!

These two beauties more than made up for the slow day and I really felt that I had deserved them too. You can't complain at two fish collectively weighing over 23lb!!

Here is a shot of the two on the bank next to the rod and reel for perspective:

Thanks Pops - great day out!
