Bream Fishing With Jake - Sandown Bay

With fine weather, a nice tide and a nagging 5 year old, I had planned to take him out for his first bream trip today. I set him up with a very light spinning rod, a small fixed spool loaded with 20lb braid and a simple running wishbone with 3oz of lead.
Fishing was slow to start but once the flood tide got under way and the ground bait started to work it's magic, the bites started to come thick and fast. Dave and I had a couple each before Jakes rod finally slammed over and stayed bent in the rod holder. I passed him his rod and for the next 5 minutes he played the fish on a light drag straight to the net! Once he had his fish in the boat he was happy, a good one too at just over 2lb 8oz.

Made up, he was keen to catch another and over the course of the morning he managed another half a dozen. I think all told we had around 30 fish until we lost the flood tide.

Jake though had the last laugh, as his first fish turned out to be the biggest of the session...well played Jake, you can come again!
