Sunday Morning Sheet of Glass

Well with that hot humid night last night, I didn't mind so much getting up at 03:30 this morning as I was awake anyway.
Picked my brother and his mate up (took some persuasion from his mate as the boat's not really suited to three) and was afloat by 04:15.
The aim of this morning was to target some bass with crab, but as usual nothing really goes exactly to plan.
On the way out we could see fish boiling and birds working, they were all over the place so thought it only right to have a go at them! Between the three of us we had 40-50 bass of between 10" and 16" on leaded sandeel imitations along with a couple of dozen mackerel. Great fun on light rods and 12lb braid.
After 3 hours of this hectic fishing we agreed to back track and follow the original plan and so anchored up at a favourite Solent mark for the remaining couple of hours. Not so hectic here but the fish were better.......in the end I had three nice bass to just under 4lb and we shared several smoothounds.......... all to spider peeler crab.

With the tide on it's way out we headed back to port with another 10minute stop on the gulls that were still working. Kept a couple of bass for tea (my personal favourite) along with a bit of green gold (mackerel!).

With conservation in mind all the rest went back to fight another day.
