Red Gold......

Some shallow stealthy boat fishing last night looking for the Red Mullet that have alluded us this year! Bait was worm for the mullet and squid for any bass that might be running through. I love this sort of fishing....light line, light leads, spinning rods, loads of action and variety!
After visiting the 'Golden Arches' (Mc Donald's) we readied the boat for a 9pm launch with high tide being around Midnight. As forecast there was not a breath of wind and all was set for a good nights fishing.
First drop and Dave had a nice bite which resulted in ....would you believe......a nice red mullet of about 1lb, what a start!

He was made up with that and all looked promising for the rest of the evening! Bites were coming thick and fast with a succession of small smoothounds, pout, eels and small bream untill the squid bait was hit on my uptider.  The result....a pristine bass of 3lb.

Dave then answered back with another red......I want one!

Next a lively bite and fight on the spinning rod had me thinking I'd got my red...but no, a slightly better bream.

With the tide now running at full flow the bass came out to play, hitting the squid baits cast uptide giving a great account of themselves in the strong flow. These were similar in size to the first, with a couple destined for the table.

On the top of the tide the bites died and we agreed to give it 10 then head back in. I'm glad we had the extra 10 minutes as I managed to sneak out a red too :-) ......and a good one at 1lb 8oz (4oz short of the Island record!)

We were back in just gone Midnight, both really pleased with how the evening unfolded....
