Culver Spit

We thought we had missed a trick with the weather window Saturday morning, but was reliably informed that the swell was really bad and launching would have been difficult! Thankfully the forecast for today was good and we were soon heading out for first light.
Big tide today, so we new it would be hard work from the off.

There was still a large swell running which did trip the anchor a couple of times during the coarse of the day. Our first mark saw some nice whiting to 2 1/4lb, a spotted ray and some jumbo pout.
As the tide was dropping away, Dave had the first proper bite on his down tide rod, gave line and the fish dropped the bait...looked like a cod...never mind!
Slack water saw some pot noodle and cuppa soup action before a short trip to the second mark of the morning.
This started off very slow until 10 minutes before our departure time - a better fish at last that took a while to come to the boat in the strong tide run. Soon netted, a nice fish of 16lb.

I wish we could have stayed on as the weather was improving as well as the fishing but Dave had duties calling at home.
