Been visiting family over the past few days up in Mablethorpe. As they have just moved by the sea I thought it rude not to take the long rods away too.
Not knowing what to expect I packed a couple of dozen live crab, a pound of worm and a couple of packs of sandeels....and even got away with keeping them in my sister in law's fridge
The local beach was very shallow and featureless but decided to give this a go over the low tide...end result = not a sniff and I think I knew it would be like that from the start.
The next day I pinched the tomtom and went off to the nearest tackle shop at Oham Lakes...this was a fresh water takle shop with some limited sea tackle and bait but I was only after a scrap of info! I managed to get some vague information pointing me in the direction of Chapel Point. Postcode in and off I went....I have never been so pleased to see people fishing where I plan to, there must be some fish here. The place looked a lot more fishy with surf, deeper water etc...
Spoke to a bloke fishing there and got a bit more clued up on bait and what I could expect. Basically crab was the bait, fish the last 3 hours of the flood and whack it as far as you can......expect to catch a flattie or two.
With a 10am tide the next day I was down there for 7am and it was blowing a gale and believe it or not, bloody freezing!
Crab on, rods out and first few casts were quiet. Around two hours before high the first fish arrived!
and they kept coming for the next hour....
Then just like it switched on, it switched off again and couldn't buy another fish. Took a couple of landscape shots through boredom...
Finished up with a big old hermit...not seen one of these chaps for a long time!!
That was about as much as I did up there really....at least next time I will have more of an idea from the start and the point is supposed to produce a few cod in winter so worth another go.
