After getting an eye full of what came home last week, Jake was drunk on excitement with the prospect of coming out and having a go for himself today. He really made me laugh today...an hour in and he needs a wee. I pass him the bucket and he announces his pants are on back-to-front - the reason: "I was so excited this morning Daddy, I didn't realise"!!!
Anyway, to the fishing. The plan was to have a couple of fun filled hours with the kids. Dave had brought his daughter 'Emily' along too and the two of them had a bit of a warm up session feathering for mackerel before some proper fishing!
Once they had caught a few each the tide was just starting to pick up enough to head out deep. I had to explain to Jake that I would have to do the hard work with the rod until there was a fish on. When it's on there, you can reel it in. He was happy with that and I think he may have had trouble effectively working a shad in 200ft of water at 6 years old. First drift through and bang - fish on. Jake sprang into action cranking it up while I supported the top of the rod for him. He was elated when his bass finally hit the surface...nicely done mate!
We took it in turns on each drift and every drift we found a fish. Emily decided she wanted to throw a strop and I felt sorry for Dave who really had his hands full today being skipper, angler and Daddy!. The fish kept coming and so did the smiles. Today for me though, it was all about Jake and being able to share these moments with your son is second to none.
A great day out in great company...maybe next time we should leave the girls at home ;-)
