Sunday Eve

With a kids trip Yesterday, we needed a 'Dads' trip today. It's a lot easier to get away with going on both days of the weekend if you take the kids with you on one! The plan this evening was to have a go at the plaice in the light followed by a bit of fishing at anchor for a change in the dark
Conditions were great with a good deal of clarity in the water but the plaice fishing was very slow. You can however put up with slow fishing when the fish you are after are of the quality they are. We did manage to find one fish each before the tide got away and those fish made the effort all the more worth while.

The next mission was to find some fresh mackerel for bait before darkness descended. Why oh why when you need them can you not find them!? After several drifts we found two mackerel and the decision was made to get the anchor in, start bottom fishing while trying to feather up more bait on the mark. Thankfully the plan worked and we added half a dozen fresh mackerel to the bait bucket.
Dave was into a fish within minutes and he was soon battling with a blonde ray in the tide. As it neared the boat the hook pulled out for a premature release....must have been camera shy! My downtider was soon away with another ray, this time a thornback had taken a liking to the fresh mackerel.

Dave had a couple of bass around the 2 - 3lb mark before finding a better one up tide. He cursed me as I tried my best to bat it off with the net!

I couldn't find a bass this evening but had fun with the rays!

We finished up at just gone 11pm...the fishing was getting better but being a 'school night' with an early start for us both in the morning we reluctantly left them to it and headed back in. Lovely night though with a couple of good fish too.
