Conger'd Out

With the small tide this evening we fished a deep mark, full of hope with the prospect of a few cod.
Plenty of action all evening but from the wrong sort of fish....the kind of fish that bite like cod, act like a cod for the first few seconds....but then start lunging and swimming backwards. Don't get me wrong, eels can be a bit of fun and fight very well but when you have your mindset on cod they can be just the opposite.
Throughout the evening we did battle with a hell of a lot of eels, some no doubt approaching 50lbs....we weren't counting but at a guesstimate we must of had over two dozen between us. I went through two complete packs of sakumas's and countless 4ft sections of 130lb trace line..it was relentless and my arms both know it!!
We did however, managed to find a handful of 'fish shaped' fish in between the ravenous serpents! First up, early on and just before dark, Dave produced a fine 7lb 5oz bass.....

I managed to find a near identical fish (mine had both it's eyes!) later on weighing in at......yes - 7lb 5oz!

Right at then end of the night I managed to drop a suspect cod halfway up and soon after Dave finally nailed one before we called it a night....

I'll be a happy man if I don't have to pull in another eel for the rest of the cod season!!
