Things sort of went to plan....we started under the cliff jigging our isome worms along the bottom but with a strong push of tide running through it made things a lot more difficult. A lot harder to pick out a bite from the rock and kelp we were zipping through and snags came thick and fast. We didn't give it too long - just enough time to find a couple of fish before moving on to a bit of bottom fishing.
Ok, enough of the light fishing - time to catch a few mackerel and get some bigger baits on the bottom before we loose the light.
Fresh baits out and it didn't take long before there was interest from plenty of dogfish. The first ray - a nice painted soon followed though.
Then a Thornback.....before the Undulates came out in force!
Once the Ungies were on the scene there was no stopping them.....all double figure fish with the biggest up around 16lb.
In between the ungies we also had a few mystery fish that were picking up the baits and swimming uptide at a serious pace. We either missed the fish or hooked up and got subsequently bitten off seconds later. Now these were to quick to be eels so my money was on a small pack of tope. Interesting, as we have never picked them up as close in as we were before....
With an hour and a half of darkness under our belts it was gone half 11 and on a scholl night, time to head in! Hopefully won't be too long before there are numbers of bass sharing the baits with the rays!
