Back To Basics

Back to basics this evening - good old fashioned bottom fishing for bass and the inevitable rays.....of course - after a very quick drift with the lures!

Bait was easy to come by this evening, in fact I haven't seen so many mackerel in a long time. They were all over the place, to the point where as soon as you lowered your feathers they stopped dead with a full string. Five minutes was all it took to ensure we had plenty of bait before we settled in on the anchor.
It didn't take long before the baits were sniffed out by the first fish - a nice blonde in the upper teens...

A better far livelier bite uptide looked more like what we were after and following a spirited scrap, in came the first spikey.

The fishing got pretty hectic with rays and bass smashing the baits left right and centre. Blondes, painteds, undulates and thornbacks were all coming out. Quite often at times with 2 or 3 fish on at once!

We couldn't take pictures of them all...it was just too busy and with a big tide running the rays didn't come in easy!
Dave added a bass to his tally of rays and I added another two around the same size as the first.

A very busy evening had to come to an end as we reluctantly left.....great night though and we'll be back soon for another go!
