Making The Most Of It

When the fishing's good, you've got to make the most of it while it lasts. That was our plan for this evening - a go at the plaice in daylight using isome and LRF tactics followed by some bass and ray fishing at anchor in the darkness.
Everything went to plan and an hours plaice fishing saw plenty of decent fish come over the side - the average size being well up on previous trips but no real monsters. It wasn't just the flatfish that were falling for these artificial worms, wrasse and bream found them irresistible too!

As the tide picked up, so did the wind - that was our cue to find some mackerel and initiate phase two of the evenings plan.
As they were last time, the mackerel were just as thick on the ground this time and we found plenty of bait in no time at all. The light rods went away and out came the down and uptiders, nicely coinciding with the last of the day light.
First cast, and my half joey mackerel was savagely smashed by the first of the bass!

After the first savage hit the bass became quite finicky and difficult to connect with....the rays on the other hand were hard to avoid!

We added some painteds and spotteds too before we finished the evening with another bass each. Mine a touch smaller than the first and Dave's somewhere around 4lb.

Another top evening none the less - another 2 months and we will be fishing for the first of the cod!!....where has this year gone!
