An Evening Afloat With Olly

Out for a punt in the bay with former Shore British Record Bass holder Steve Cave AKA - 'Olly' this evening to take advantage of a nice little weather window mid week.
Mackerel were easy to come by and in no time at all we were sat fishing at anchor. The best part of the tide was in daylight this evening which accounted for some slower fishing. By the time the darkness set in the tide was backing right off so to cut a long story short we had a quiet one! We still managed to find a few fish however, first up a nice painted:

This was soon followed by another similar sized painted, a quiet half an hour and another one of those double figure undulates that seem to be the norm for every trip now!

Olly found a nice painted in the daylight too....

I followed with another smaller undulate and amazingly after returning the fish, caught it again 30 minutes later! I could see where I had removed the hook from the first capture - just goes to show it doesn't cause them any bother at all!

Darkness came eventually and with it, interest from the bass. Unfortunately the tide had dropped right back and the bass were just plucking, nipping and playing with the baits. The only fish we managed to connect with over the last 45 minutes were dogs, pout and a surprise baby tope!

Pout rarely get the privilege of a photo, but as it was a beast of a pout we'll let this one in - just for you Olly!

A slow afternoon / evening but enjoyable all the same ;-)
