A change of scenery, a change of boat and a change of tactics! leads under 2oz, light rods and worm baits replaced the heavier gear with the humble Sole our target species this evening.
We had our first baits in the water just as darkness fell and as soon as they hit the bottom the bites started to come. Lots of mini pout with a few small smoothounds thrown in made short work of the worm baits.
First suspect sole came to the surface and revealed itself as a flounder!
With the next fish though we were off the mark - the first sole of the evening :-)
We had to wade through the small pout to find the sole but they were coming to the boat at a steady rate - soon followed a 2nd, 3rd and 4th!
Certainly not big as sole go but boy do they fight in shallow water under the boat on those 7g lure rods!
Dave started to get amongst them too with his first of the evening....
The next fish up had a decent turn of speed on it and dumped a load of slack line on Dave. We had a sneaky feeling what this might be and our suspicions were confirmed when a lovely red mullet came to the boat.....one of the prettiest fish we have over here.
A handful of school bass and a rogue dogfish followed before the final sole of the evening, taking our tally to 6. I'd describe this as 'fun' fishing and we'll be back for another go very shortly.
